Welcome to Woodwater Academy
We welcome visits to our school. If you would like to come and see what we do, please call the school office and they will make an appointment for Mrs Olivant, our Headteacher to show you around and answer any questions you may have.
Woodwater Academy, which became an academy in 2013, is a member of Ventrus, a multi-academy trust. The Trust comprises eleven Devon primary schools and a secondary school, whose aim is to deliver excellence in education through collaborative working and mutual accountability.
Each of the schools has its own Headteacher and these school leaders work closely together to ensure that we deliver a curriculum which meets the needs of all children and that opportunities for our children are broad and challenging. In addition there is an Executive Leadership team for the Trust as a whole, which comprises the CEO of the Trust, Mr Gary Chown, two Directors of Education and a HR/Finance Lead. The Executive team oversees and supports school improvement for all eleven schools, at a local level Miss Price (Acting Deputy Headteacher) works with Mrs Olivant to ensure that Woodwater Academy continues to provide an excellent level of education.
Staff and governors of our school benefit hugely from working within a family of schools. The Trust operates a variety of ‘Best Practice Networks’. For the children in the Trust schools, there are opportunities to work and play with children from other Ventrus schools. Whether it be on a Gifted and Talented day for mathematicians, a musical event or in the sporting arena, our children benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of a large group of talented and skilled teachers and assistants
At Woodwater Academy, we do not believe it is enough just to give children a grasp of the basic skills, we believe we need to help each individual child to use and develop those skills. Schooling is about every aspect of human personality and achievement and so an important part of the work we do in school is promoting a sense of the joy of learning. Developing the children’s personal, social and emotional skills starts in our Foundation Stage and remains important throughout each child’s time with us.
We are extremely proud of the positive relationships that we have with our families and the wider community in which they live. It is our aim to work as one team in order to deliver the highest standards of education to all of our children.
